Solar Cooking Through a Solar Eclipse?

On Monday, August 21, 2017, all of North America will be treated to an eclipse of the sun. Anyone within the path of totality can see one of nature’s most awe-inspiring sights - a total solar eclipse. This path, where the moon will completely cover the sun and the sun's tenuous atmosphere - the corona - can be seen, will stretch from Lincoln Beach, Oregon to Charleston, South Carolina. Observers outside this path will still see a partial solar eclipse where the moon covers part of the sun's disk.

Why will the GoSun keep cooking during a Solar Eclipse?

Most solar concentrator type solar ovens (such as parabolic dish cookers) need clear and direct sunlight to focus the bright rays of the sun. During a Solar Eclipse, you will lose those bright rays and your temperature will plummet.

Other solar cookers use a large lightly-insulated box with a thin layer of glass on top to capture the infrared rays of the sun but start emitting heat from the top of the box immediately.

GoSun’s unique cooking area is encased by two layers of glass with a vacuum between these layers, it not only captures heat quite well, it CONTAINS it better than most solar cookers.

How does it work?

Heat can be transferred through the air. To keep heat from escaping, you need insulation. The best insulator possible is a vacuum because there's no air. If there's no air to transfer heat, then the heat is retained where it is — and where you want it: in your food. Our solar heating technology essentially works as one of those newer designs double insulated thermos with a vacuum between them. If you have ever tested these units, if you place warm liquid in them, they can stay warm for 24 hours!. Our patented technology works the same way. Therefore the GoSun solar oven is much less vulnerable to cloudy weather (or a solar eclipse for that matter) because once the heat is captured, it will keep on cooking!
